The word “Atha” is a Sanskrit word that means “now”, but not just any old now. It signifies the beginning of a journey, a meaningful transition into a transformative experience. It is a word that opens a doorway for the student to step through. The word “Atha” is the first word of Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras: Atha yogānuśāsanam, “And now the teaching of yoga begins.” You are ready to step into the practice now.
Atha Yoga is a space where we honor the traditional roots of yoga, a sacred art and practice that comes to us from India, while keeping it relevant and fresh for today’s students.
